Are you good at anything besides making movies?
I'm good at puppy love. And people have been really into my paintings. I did one that's on the cover of a Will Oldham CD called Ode Music. People seem to really like that.

Would you ever date a fan?
Yeah! Bring 'em on.

Dream Date: Me and some totally groovy, scruffy art boy exploring the Gorge and all the waterfalls. That would be totally romantic.

Fave dead actor/actress: Bette Davis, James Stewart

What are you working on next?
A big splashy melodrama. We're not filming it until next summer, but that's what I wrote when I first came out to Portland.

What do you love about Portland?
I've just met the best people here. I've met one shockingly smart, interesting, weird, cool person after the next. I go to concerts and the audiences are so enthusiastic!

What's your most embarrassing moment?
It was at a Miramax party and these people from across the room thought I was Beck, which was extremely flattering. But as I walk past them, the woman turns to the man and goes, "Yeah, Beck in 40 years."
